When Will I See Results from My Botox Treatment?
Botox, commonly known as a method for smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles, can also be used in a dental setting. Dentists can administer Botox for cosmetic purposes as well as to treat conditions like chronic migraines, temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD), and more.
Botox is a neuromodulator, meaning it restricts muscles from contracting by inhibiting nerve signals. When injected into specific treatment areas in the face, it will stop those muscles from contracting, and wrinkles will gradually become smoothed out.
How Soon Will I See Results?
Clinical effects from Botox can first be seen within one to four days, and it can take up to 14 days to see the full effects of treatment. Results from a Botox treatment usually last about three to six months. Many people schedule their recurring treatments six months apart.
After Treatment
Recovery from Botox treatment takes virtually no time at all. You will be able to return to work and daily routine the same day. Complications from Botox are incredibly rare. You may notice light bruising or swelling around the treated area, but these side effects should disappear in a day or two.
While there is no recovery period for Botox, patients should be aware of safe practices to achieve the best results. Keep your head upright and avoid itching or rubbing the injection area for at least four hours after treatment. Patients should not exercise or move vigorously for at least 24 hours after. Your dentist will also provide you with individualized instructions following treatment.
