Orthodontics
Do you have crooked, misaligned teeth, an underbite, or overbite? Midland Dental has the solution! We provide orthodontic dentistry, more commonly known as braces or aligners. Orthodontic dentistry is the practice of preventing, identifying, and fixing flaws in the alignment of the teeth and jaw.
There are many kinds of orthodontic problems that can be treated with braces, including the following:
Missing teeth
Extra teeth
Jaw growth problems
Crowded or protruding teeth
Spacing problems
Other things that may cause a need for orthodontic treatment may be thumb or finger-sucking at a young age, not losing all baby teeth, losing baby teeth too early, dental accidents or diseases.
Braces improve more than just the look of your smile and self-confidence; they also help with overall dental health. Crooked teeth are prone to tooth decay because they are harder to clean so they accumulate more plaque and tartar buildup. Chewing and speaking can become a challenge as well. Enamel, gum tissue and bone will wear more quickly. With braces, your teeth become straighter and therefore easier to clean, chewing and speaking won’t be a problem, and enamel, gum tissue, and bone will be preserved.
Braces or other orthodontic treatments are appropriate for a wide range of ages. Children can receive treatment at age 6 or 7 to address certain conditions. It’s common for children to get braces during the adolescent stage, after their baby teeth have all fallen out. Adults can get braces or aligners, especially now that there a less noticeable options and treatment time is shorter.
