How Do You Clean a Dental Bridge?
Dental bridges replace one or more missing teeth by using natural teeth or dental implants for support. Cleaning your dental bridge is important for maintaining good oral health and protecting the teeth and gums around it. Food particles and plaque can collect underneath the pontic, where a regular toothbrush may not be able to reach.
You should brush your teeth and all around the dental bridge at least twice a day for two minutes. It is best to use a soft-bristled brush and fluoride toothpaste. Brush softly, paying extra attention to the gumline and where the bridge touches the teeth.
Flossing Tips
Cleaning underneath the bridge is especially important because your toothbrush cannot effectively reach this area. Several tools can help:
Floss Threader: A floss threader can help guide regular dental floss underneath the bridge. Once the floss is in place, gently move it along the sides of the supporting teeth and underneath the pontic.
Interdental Brushes: Small interdental brushes can help clean underneath and around the bridge and remove food particles and plaque.
Water Flosser: A water flosser can help flush food and debris from underneath the bridge and along the gumline. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and your dentist's recommendations for the appropriate pressure.
Super Floss: Super Floss is designed with a stiffened end that can be guided underneath a bridge, along with a spongy section that can help clean around the pontic and gumline.
