Do I need braces?
Braces are commonly used to fix crooked teeth, but they do so much more than that. They can fix other, more uncommon problems that can affect your dental health. At Intermountain Dental Specialist, we can create an orthodontic treatment plan to improve every smile.
Here are some signs that you may need braces:
Your teeth are crowded. Crowding is a common problem. It means that your teeth do not have enough space in your jaw, so they begin to overlap each other. Crowded teeth can be hard to brush and floss thoroughly, so they are more likely to develop decay, cavities, and gum disease. Crowding is simple to fix with braces.
Your teeth are spaced too far apart. The opposite of crowding, gapping or spacing is when your jaw is too big to fit all of your teeth, or maybe you are missing a tooth, so they develop extra space between them. Braces can be used by gradually moving the teeth to close the gaps between them.
You have an underbite. This is when your lower front teeth rest in front of your upper front teeth when you bite down. An underbite can happen due to disproportionately sized jaws and can cause difficulty chewing, biting, or pronouncing certain sounds.
You have an overbite. When the upper front teeth rest significantly in front of the lower front teeth while biting down, it is known as an overbite. A person with an overbite is more likely to experience gum recession and extreme tooth wear, and the front teeth are more susceptible to injury. Braces can fix overbites and underbites by shifting the jaws into the proper position.
If any of these signs apply to you, you are welcome to give us a call or visit Midland Dental & Orthodontics. Our staff will work with you to create an orthodontic treatment plan designed just for you.
