Oral Surgery
Many people hear the words “oral surgery” and imagine a time-consuming, painful procedure. In reality, oral surgeries are quite common and even necessary for many patients. Most people need to have their wisdom teeth removed, and some suffer from sleep apnea, or have lost an adult tooth, all of which benefit from or require oral surgery. Thanks to modern anesthesia, oral surgeries can be quite painless.
At Midland Dental, are dentists specialize in all types of oral surgery:
Wisdom Tooth Removal
Many patients, though not all, need to have their wisdom teeth removed because they can become impacted, meaning that there isn’t enough room in the jaw for them to grow. An impacted wisdom tooth can cause pain, misalignment of other teeth, and even tooth decay and gum disease.
Sleep Apnea Treatment
Sleep apnea is when breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep. There are multiple treatments for this sleep disorder, including oral surgery. In this procedure, your oral surgeon will extract extra tissue from the back of the throat, which will help keep the airway unobstructed during sleep.
Reconstructive Surgery
This kind of surgery is an option for patients with misaligned jaws or facial injuries. The procedure can eliminate jaw pain and improve the patient’s ability to chew food, as well as give them a more appealing smile.
Dental Implants
Consider dental implant surgery if you have lost a tooth. In the first procedure, the surgeon will place small posts in the tooth sockets. During the next procedure, they will use artificial, yet natural-looking, teeth to put on the posts as permanent replacement teeth.
